Drop in any JPG, PNG or WebP up to 25 MB, choose crop or fit, pick 3840×2160 or 1280×720, then press "Create thumbnail" and download it.
Crop fills the 16:9 frame by trimming the outer edges, which is right when the subject is near the centre. Fit keeps the whole image and pads the gaps with either a blurred copy of the image or a solid colour, which is right when you cannot afford to lose any of the frame.
3840×2160 matches YouTube's current recommendation and gives the most headroom. 1280×720 is a lightweight HD option that stays well under the 2 MB mobile upload limit, which matters if you upload from a phone.
Lower the quality slider, choose 1280×720 instead of 3840×2160, or export as WebP. The result panel shows the exact file size after each render, and warns you when it is over the mobile limit.
PNG is a lossless format, so there is no quality setting to trade. It preserves transparency and sharp graphic edges but produces much larger files than JPG or WebP for photographic images.
JPG for photographic thumbnails, WebP for the smallest file at the same quality, and PNG only when you need lossless edges or transparency.
